DESIGNER LIZ WATSON USES
THE ANCIENT ART OF LOST-WAX CASTING
FIRST
Liz carefully carves the design out of a piece of hard jeweler’s wax.
SECOND
Silicone is used to make a mold of the wax design.
THIRD
Bronze metal is poured into the silicon mold. The bronze is then cooled, filed, and shined to a finish.
FOURTH
A very thick plating (3 times the typical average) of either 14K gold or fine silver is applied to the bronze.
LAST
The final touches are applied to pieces in our Cape Charles studio.
Liz Watson is an artist and designer based in Cape Charles, Virginia. A largely self-taught jewelry designer, she uses the ancient art of lost-wax casting to bring her designs to life. A fan of minimalism, Liz’s designs are at once on-trend and timeless.
Liz is also an accomplished photographer and graphic designer. She has won several national awards for graphic design, and in 2017 she was shortlisted in LensCulture Magazine’s competition as one of the world’s “Top 50 Photographers to Watch.”
Liz holds a B.A. in History with studies in Studio Art from the University of Virginia and a graduate certificate in Graphic and Digital Design from Parsons School of Design.
She lives and works in Cape Charles, Virginia. When she’s not making art, you can find her out enjoying the Chesapeake Bay with her dog, Norman, traveling with her family, or dancing to music any chance she gets.
